Amid the ongoing ‘Dilli Chalo’ March, the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) announced a nationwide strike, referred to as the ‘Gramin Bharat Bandh,’ scheduled for February 16. These groups aim to highlight the government’s unfulfilled promises during the 2020 Farmers’ Protest.
Gramin Bharat Bandh Timings
The Gramin Bharat Bandh is set to take place from 6:00 AM to 4:00 PM. During this time, farmers, backed by central trade unions, intend to block roads in key locations across the country from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM. In Punjab, several state and national highways will be closed for four hours on Friday, February 16th.
Farmers’ Demands
Besides the Minimum Support Price (MSP), the protesting Farmers’ Association has presented several requests. They’re asking for pensions for farmers and the proper implementation of workers’ benefits. They’re against any changes to labor laws. Their demands include a monthly salary of Rs 26,000 for workers and the assurance of employment as a basic right. They’re also pushing for an increase in the daily wage under MGNREGS to Rs 600, with each individual entitled to 200 days of work per year.
CBSE Board Exam 2024
With the CBSE Board Exam 2024 starting today, February 15, there’s worry among students and parents regarding the exams scheduled for February 16, 2024. This year, over 39 lakh students will be taking the exams from India and 26 countries abroad.
In Delhi alone, where the farmers are marching towards, a total of 5,80,192 students will be taking exams at 877 examination centres. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has instructed students to arrive by 10:00 AM, which is thirty minutes before the exam begins.
Due to the ongoing situation in Delhi, the Board anticipates heavy traffic problems that could lead to delays in reaching the exam venue. Therefore, all students are advised to leave for the exam center early to ensure they arrive on time. Additionally, students are encouraged to utilise Metro services.
“All schools are requested to help and guide the parents and the students. Students are once again advised to visit their examination centre in advance and make a plan for their travel so that they can arrive before or on time on all examination days,” reads the CBSE notice.
