There is a big relief news for more than 1.2 billion mobile users in India. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has taken a new step, which aims to reduce the problems related to fake calls and fraud. Under this, TRAI is going to launch an upgraded Do-Not-Disturb (DND) app, which will help users to control unwanted calls and messages.
Due to the increasing cases of fake calls and scams, TRAI has taken this new step. Through this new DND app, users will get more control, and they will be able to easily block unwanted calls. This new app will provide better user experience and users will get more options to block commercial calls in addition to spam calls. In the current DND app, users can report spam calls, but the new app will allow them to block these calls at the user level.
This step is also necessary because telecom operators are constantly facing challenges in controlling fake calls at the network level, although they are using AI-driven filters. So far, more than 800 entities and 1.8 million numbers have been blocked under these filters. However, TRAI believes that if users are given the power to block these calls, it will be easier to deal with this problem.
The DND app launched in 2016 was not that effective earlier, but now TRAI hopes that with new features this app will be more popular among the users and will reduce the problem of unwanted calls to a great extent. TRAI has also urged telecom companies to include AI features in the new app, so that fake calls and messages can be filtered even better. This upgraded DND app is expected to be launched next year, which will be a cause of relief for mobile users across the country.
