Sony’s PlayStation Network restorations after outage

Users on Sony’s gaming platforms can now access the PlayStation Network after a severe outage that started Monday night. Games on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 consoles have been unavailable since several hours ago due to an online issue.

At Tuesday morning, according to the PSN Service Status page, “all services are up and running,” while by 8:25 ET game streaming just wasn’t there at all. The statement read, “You may have issues launching games, apps, or network features. We are working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible. Thanks for your patience.”.

This outage lasted around eight hours and impacted almost all PlayStation systems, including PS Vita, PS3, PS4, and PS5, and web access. For many gamers, the connection was easily re-established, but others still reported problems concerning communication and connectivity.

According to the company, downtime prevented people from logging in, playing through multiplayer games, and continuing with single-player titles that required an internet check. However, offline games appeared not to be affected. Many users received error messages, such as “PS5 error Code WS-116522-7,” indicating a failed system software update.

Sony did not publish the cause of the outage. They provide a minimum publicly acknowledged on social media. Most updates were passed through a Japanese PlayStation support page on X (formerly Twitter). Some users and developers from other regions have provided information about the server status.

So, while the main problems appear to be smoothed out, some gamers are still enduring lingering connectivity issues. At this time, there is no indication that the outage has anything to do with the separate bug, which was affecting the artwork on the home screen for PS5 games and has now been fixed.
