Stock Market Holiday Notice: Indian stock markets, the National Stock Exchange and the Bombay Stock Exchange are to be closed on Wednesday, 2nd October 2024 due to Gandhi Jayanti. National holiday to commemorate the birthday of non-violence movement leader, father of civil disobedience, nationalist warrior after whom comes the very ‘Quit India Movement’ which he led the Indian people to independent India from colonial bondage-India’s great mass leader of the Indian freedom movement. It happens to be just two days after Independence Day on 15th August.
All the trades in the equity, equity derivatives, as well as SLB segments, will be closed on this day. The MCX too will not be an exception with it closing its trading sessions on October 2.
Regular trading will begin on October 3, Thursday, allowing the investors to reenter the market after the day of reflection.
Market Recap
The Indian benchmark equity indices ended the day flat but negative on Tuesday as the session remained range-bound. BSE Sensex closed at 84,266.29 with a decline of 33.49 points, or 0.04%, while the NSE Nifty50 settled at 25,796.90 after shedding 13.95 points, or 0.05%.
The Nifty50 saw 29 out of its 50 stocks losing ground. These included IndusInd Bank, ONGC, Asian Paints, Bajaj Auto, and Tata Steel, which fell up to 2.66%.
Appreciations were seen in the counters of Tech Mahindra, Mahindra & Mahindra, Britannia Industries, Infosys, and Adani Enterprises by 2.90%.
In broader markets, Nifty SmallCap100 has seen an appreciation by 0.79% and the index Nifty MidCap100 has increased by 0.34%.
On a year-to-date basis, BSE Sensex has risen more than 16%, whereas Nifty 50 has risen approximately 18%.
Trading Hours: Stock Market
The Indian stock market operates from 9:15 AM to 3:30 PM on weekdays from Monday to Friday. There is a pre-open session that is available on the regular trading days from 9:00 AM to 9:07 AM. The markets remain closed on weekends.
Stock Market Holidays for 2024
The stock market shall reopen after the Gandhi Jayanti holidays in the rest of October. The next holiday in the month of November is on the Diwali occasion, and the NSE and BSE has a special one-hour Muhurat Trading session arranged for the same day-timings yet to be declared.
