In unfortunate news, the daughter of an MLA in Mumbai fell victim to internet fraud. According to The Times of India, Sneha Saklecha, the 31-year-old daughter of politician Geeta Jain, was duped while trying to pay for candies through a mobile app. She lost over Rs 79,000 in the process.

Saklecha, who works as a director at the family-run Sonam Group of Companies, reported the incident to the Navghar police in Bhayander (east). On November 9 around 5 pm, Sneha Saklecha was at her bungalow when her mother-in-law asked her to pay Rs 480 online for candies. Saklecha scanned a QR code with her smartphone linked to her bank account.

However, her mother-in-law later called, claiming the sweet store needed an additional payment and that they had her phone. Saklecha then received a WhatsApp call from an unknown number, supposedly from the candy store, asking her to enter the code 39,506 for GST. Unfortunately, this action led to a quick debit of funds from her account. Unfortunately, Saklecha followed the instructions, resulting in another transaction and a loss of Rs 39,506.

When she attempted to call the number back upon realizing her mistake, she discovered she was blocked. The mysterious caller is now the focus of a case filed by the Navghar police under the relevant sections of the Information Technology Act and IPC for cheating.

This incident has raised concerns about cybercrimes in the Mira-Bhayander and Vasai-Virar regions. In response, the Mira Bhayander Vasai Virar (MBVV) Commissionerate has established a special cybercrime police station.
