According to outage tracking website Downdetector, hundreds of users in India and several other countries are unable to use Facebook, Instagram, Threads, and Messenger—platforms run by Meta.

According to the website, there were over 20,000 reports of outages on Instagram and over 300,000 reports of outages on Facebook. A number of users were unable to come back into their Facebook accounts after they were logged out due to an outage.

“People are experiencing difficulties using our services, as we are aware. We are currently addressing this,” Meta spokesman Andy Stone stated.

By compiling status updates from multiple sources, including user-submitted problems on its platform, Downdetector keeps track of outages. There could have been more users impacted by the outage.

It is unknown how long it will take for the servers to start operating again after the worldwide outage, and Meta has not replied.

Meta also owns WhatsApp, which has not yet experienced any disruptions. Though competitor X, which just released, is also unavailable. People went to Elon Musk’s X during the minutes-long outage, and hashtags like #Instagramdown, Facebook, and Mark Zuckerberg are trending on the social media network as users share jokes in response to the widespread server problem.
