A blog post on the WhatsApp support website states that the required OS for Android smartphones has changed in several ways. Now, WhatsApp will only function on handsets running Android 5.0 or later. In order to meet the eligibility requirements, you must therefore plan on upgrading your smartphone if it does not support Android version 5.

Before ending support for the Android version, WhatsApp intends to inform and remind users. Users will receive a notification instructing them to switch to a suitable device so they can access WhatsApp and all of its new features.

A MySmartPrice report claims that WhatsApp is altering its app requirements for security reasons. According to some reports, outdated Android versions on smartphones leave them defenseless against security breaches. Another explanation can be the addition of new and sophisticated functionality to apps. Many smartphones can’t run some high-end functions. The purpose of these modifications is to enhance user experience so that they can utilise all of WhatsApp’s features.

KaiOS version 2.5.0 or higher, as well as Apple iPhones running iOS 12 or later, are necessary for WhatsApp support.

So yet, there haven’t been any modifications to iOS or KaiOS devices.
