Tata Curvv EV Review: Is This Coupe SUV the Future of Electric Vehicles?

6 Min Read

Tata Motors has made a bold move into the competitive Indian EV market with the launch of the Curvv EV, a coupe SUV that stands out for its design and all-electric powertrain. As the company aims to redefine conventional vehicle norms, the Curvv EV faces off against rivals like the MG ZS EV. We took the Curvv EV through its paces to see if it lives up to the hype.

Driving Experience of Tata Curvv EV

The Tata Curvv EV comes with two battery options: 45 kWh and 55 kWh. The 55 kWh model delivers 166 bhp, while the 45 kWh version produces 148 bhp, both generating a torque of 215 Nm. This power is managed through three driving modes: Eco, City, and Sport, offering varied driving experiences.

Performance Highlights:

  • 55 kWh Model: Accelerates from 0 to 100 kmph in 8.6 seconds.
  • 45 kWh Model: Achieves the same in 9 seconds.

The Curvv EV’s acceleration is smooth and progressive, avoiding the jarring jolts often experienced in traditional combustion engines. The Sport mode adds a burst of excitement, making the drive thrilling.

The four-spoke steering wheel and paddle shifters enhance the driving experience, while the four regenerative braking options contribute to better energy efficiency. The vehicle’s low center of gravity ensures stability around corners, and its handling of slow-moving traffic is commendable. However, the ride can be firm, and it struggles with harsh road conditions, especially noticeable for rear passengers.

Range and Charging of Tata Curvv EV

The Curvv EV’s real-world range varies with driving mode:

  • Sport Mode: 376 km
  • City Mode: 396 km
  • Eco Mode: 420 km

Official ARAI Figures:

  • 45 kWh Model: 502 km
  • 55 kWh Model: 585 km

In practical conditions, the 45 kWh model is expected to offer around 350 km, while the 55 kWh model will provide about 502 km. The 55 kWh variant features the largest battery capacity in its segment, supporting fast charging. It can recharge from 10% to 80% in 40 minutes using a 70 kW charger, and provides a 150 km range with a 15-minute charge.

Tata Curvv EV : Interior and Features

The Curvv EV’s interior is reminiscent of the Nexon EV, featuring a contemporary design with premium touches like contrasting stitching and faux carbon fiber. However, the use of hard plastics on the dashboard could be improved.

  • 10.25-inch Digital Driver Display
  • Wireless Phone Charger
  • Panoramic Sunroof
  • 9-Speaker JBL Sound System

Seating includes front-ventilated seats, a 6-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, and a 6-way manually adjustable front passenger seat. Rear seating is comfortable for two adults, with sufficient space for a child, though the floor is raised, impacting thigh support.

Exterior Design of Curvv EV

The Curvv EV features a striking coupe roofline and a tall stance, with a split headlight design and sleek LED DRLs. It includes smart lighting features like welcome and goodbye animations and sequential turn indicators.

Exterior Highlights:

  • Powered Front Charging Flap
  • 11.6-litre Frunk
  • 18-inch Alloy Wheels
  • Powered Tailgate with Gesture Controls
  • 500 Litres of Boot Space
